HOW SINE'SKWELA IS PRODUCED: SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES BEHIND ITS MAKING

There are three major steps towards the production of an episode. The process is a meticulous one that requires the synergy and collective efforts of several experts and institutions such as DECS and the Department of Science and Technology. The education department's approval of all scientific data is sought to ensure accuracy of everything aired in the show.

The procedure:

  1. PRE-PRODUCTION

    • Focus on science topics (based on DECS curriculum for grade schools)
    • Research on topics selected
    • Checking and validation of research by DOST
    • Distribution of assignments and research papers to writers
    • Writers draft storyline
    • Presentation to the Creative Committee (membership: representative from DECS and DOST, Executive Producer, Operations Manager, Director, Headwriter, Science Research Coordinator, Education Consultant, Research Department representative, Teacher Consultants for Intermediate and Primary levels)
    • If storyline is approved, first draft of script is written
If not, storyline is revised according to comments of Creative Committee
    • Presentation of script to Creative Committee (script is revised until finally approved)
    • Proceed to Production for casting and taping

  2. PRODUCTION PROPER

    • Pre-production meeting: discussion and finalization of the following:
      1. Set design
      2. Costume design and execution/sourcing
      3. Talents
      4. Props
      5. Director
    • Post-production meeting regarding Computer-Generated Arts requirements
(It is here that Director, GFX Artist, Post-production Supervisor, and Sci-Researcher ascertain the computer-generated requirements. Art Director, EP and AP also attend this meeting. This is equally important a meeting because SS includes so many illustrations and animations in its episodes.)

    • Taping proper

  3. POST PRODUCTION

    • Editing
    • Shooting of (additional) video inserts
    • Computer graphics
    • Scoring
    • Preview by Program Evaluation Committee (membership: Producer, all Executive Producers, Directors, Operations Manager, Research Department, Logistics Department)
(revisions are made if necessary based on comments of Program Evaluation Committee)
    • Publicity/promotions and actual airing
    • Choice episodes are anthologized in VHS tapes for commercial circulation
